Meeting Notes from Planning Meeting on July 18, 1998

The attached schedule indicates the meetings that we have planned for the upcoming year. We tried to utilize the meeting survey from last year to find meeting topics and formats that appealed to the most people.

Jennifer Markwardt will continue to manage and update our local SWE web site. We got volunteers for several other open leadership positions for the upcoming year (see attached officer's list). If I have someone's address/phone/e-mail incorrect, please let me know so I can update the list.

Our section won the Membership Program Award at the National Convention this summer. This award recognized the many aspects of our program to attract and retain SWE members. Many thanks to Karen Herbert for putting this program and award application together. Now we just need to build upon this great framework to actually increase our membership numbers this year.

The Treasurer's report indicated that we ended up gaining $560 from last year. We have a current account balance of $3280.00. Because we did so well, we all agreed to donate $75 to the Mid-Missouri SWE section to help them in their efforts to charter a new section.

There is a Region i conference coming up on Oct. 2 & 3 in Wichita, KS. This will be a joint professional/student conference. Postcards for this event should be arriving soon, if you haven't already received one.

We did not have time to cover all of the topics planned, so we will be having another meeting on Aug. 11. At that meeting we will brainstorm ideas to improve membership, discuss bidding for the National Convention in 2004, and review the survey regarding newsletter distribution.
